No heating or hot water in Wellingborough? Our Gas Safe engineers cover NN8, NN9, NN10 and NN29 — same-day repair in most cases, typically within 2 hours of arrival.
There's never a good time for your boiler to break down — but if it has, you're in the right place. THS Plumbing & Heating have been repairing boilers in Wellingborough since 2000, covering all of NN8, NN9, NN10 and NN29. Our Gas Safe registered engineers repair every make and model, typically on the same visit.
Our vans are stocked with the most common boiler parts — heat exchangers, diverter valves, pump assemblies, PCBs, thermistors — so we fix most faults first time without waiting for parts. We cover Wellingborough town centre, Stanton Cross, Earls Barton, Finedon, Irchester, Rushden and all surrounding villages. Average arrival time for NN8 postcodes is 45–65 minutes.
Recognise your fault? Our engineers carry parts to fix most of these same-visit across NN8, NN9, NN10 and NN29.
The most common call we receive. Usually a diverter valve, pump failure or ignition fault. Repaired same-day in most cases.
Could be a tripped fuse, failed ignitor, gas supply issue, or a PCB fault. We diagnose accurately to avoid unnecessary part replacement.
Topping the system up regularly is a sign of a water leak or failing pressure relief valve. Left untreated it causes long-term damage.
Intermittent lockout is usually caused by low pressure, a blocked condensate pipe, or an overheating stat — all diagnosable on a single visit.
Kettling — rumbling or banging when the boiler fires — indicates limescale in the heat exchanger. Common in hard water areas like Wellingborough.
Sludge build-up blocking radiators. Often resolved with a power flush — or individual radiator treatment without draining the whole system.
A dripping boiler is never normal. Usually a failed pressure relief valve, pump seal or heat exchanger joint. Needs fixing before secondary damage occurs.
Common in Northamptonshire winters. The condensate pipe freezes outdoors, causing an E133 or similar lockout. Thawable in minutes — we can talk you through it on the phone first.
Photograph your code before calling — it tells us exactly which component has failed and lets us arrive with the right part. See our search tool above.
A boiler that ignores the thermostat usually has a wiring fault, a failed zone valve, or a failing PCB. Diagnosable same-visit.
Thermocouple failure, draught interference, or gas supply problems. A common fault on older boilers — quick to repair if parts are available.
Boiler fires briefly then shuts off repeatedly. Usually a flow rate, overheat or sensor issue. Each short-cycle stresses the heat exchanger — fix it early.
Our Wellingborough engineers would rather you try these first — they fix a surprising number of problems at no cost, and if they don't, they tell us exactly what we're dealing with.
A tripped fuse is the single most common cause of a "dead" boiler
Head to your consumer unit (fuse board — usually in a cupboard or garage) and look for any switch in the off or tripped position. The boiler circuit is typically labelled "Boiler" or "Heating." Flip any tripped breaker fully off then firmly back on.
Also check the fused spur switch on the wall near the boiler itself — a small white switch with a red indicator. If the light is off, the switch may have tripped. Reset it and wait 2 minutes.
If it trips again immediately: stop resetting — there may be an electrical fault. Call us and don't touch it further.

Inside and outside — both need to be open for your boiler to fire
Check your outdoor gas meter box — the emergency control valve (ECV) should have its handle parallel to the pipe (open). If it's at 90° to the pipe, it's closed. Only turn it if you know it was accidentally shut — if you suspect a gas leak, never touch it.
If you have an indoor gas valve near the boiler, check that too. Both need to be open for gas to reach the boiler. Also check that other gas appliances (hob, gas fire) are working — if none of them work, contact Cadent Gas on 0800 111 999 as it may be a supply issue.

Low pressure is the most fixable problem — often no engineer needed
Find the pressure gauge on the front or underside of your boiler — a round dial with a needle or a digital readout in bars. Ideal pressure for most boilers when cold is 1 to 1.5 bar. Below 1 bar, many boilers lock out for safety.
To repressurise: locate the filling loop (a flexible silver hose beneath the boiler). Open the valve slowly until pressure rises to 1.2–1.5 bar, then close firmly. Wait 5 minutes for the boiler to reset and retry. If pressure drops again quickly, there's a leak somewhere in the system — that needs an engineer.
Above 3 bar? Turn the filling loop off immediately and call us. Over-pressurisation can damage the heat exchanger and expansion vessel.
Write it down or photograph it — it's your engineer's shortcut
Modern boilers display a fault code when they lock out — common examples include E118, F75, EA, E133, F22 (exact format varies by brand: Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi). The code pinpoints the fault precisely — low pressure, ignition failure, sensor fault, condensate blockage.
Use the search tool above to look it up, or call us. When you call with the code, our engineer arrives knowing what part is likely needed — that means fewer return visits and faster repairs. Without the code, diagnosis takes longer.

Windows are your home's biggest source of heat loss. Keep curtains drawn — especially on north-facing rooms.
Don't try to heat rooms you're not using. Keep doors shut and concentrate warmth in one or two rooms.
Soup, porridge, hot tea — warming yourself from the inside is underrated when the heating fails.
Residual oven heat warms the kitchen well. Never use a gas oven as the primary heat source and don't leave unattended.

Everything you'd want to know before booking a boiler repair in Wellingborough.
Common boiler repairs range from £85 to £392, depending on the fault and parts needed. You receive a clear upfront quote before work starts — no hidden fees. The most frequent faults are pressure loss, fault codes and ignition failure.
Most breakdowns are repaired same-visit, typically within 2 hours. Our average response time for NN8 postcodes is 45–65 minutes. We carry the most common boiler parts so first-time fixes are the norm.
If you have no heating or hot water, booking an emergency repair gets your boiler fixed the same day. A standard appointment may take a few days, so if you can't wait, call us for emergency cover. We never pressure you — our engineers only recommend what's needed.
Yes. Every boiler repair carries a full 12-month parts and labour guarantee. If the same fault returns within 12 months, we return and fit a new replacement part — no charge for parts or labour.
If your boiler is under 10 years old, parts are almost always available and repair makes sense. Older boilers — especially over 15 years — may have discontinued parts, and replacement becomes more economical. We'll give you an honest recommendation, never push you towards a new boiler unless it genuinely makes financial sense.
Yes. All THS engineers are Gas Safe registered under number 517522 and City & Guilds qualified. You can verify this at gassaferegister.co.uk. Never let an unregistered engineer work on your gas boiler — it's illegal and dangerous.

"My boiler was very noisy. Called Kirk and he serviced my boiler. Now it runs smooth again. Prompt, professional and very reasonable."
"Sorted our boiler within the hour, had a part with him. Really impressed with his service and coming out when he said he would. 10/10."
"Absolutely brilliant service. Kirk and his team fitted a new boiler, ran a new gas pipe and removed the old tank — all in one day. Could not fault them."
