Plumbing is something that every one of us uses and relies on at home. From our bathrooms to our kitchens, making sure all of your plumbing pipes are running smoothly and efficiently is important.

We have come up with some great plumbing tips, tricks and advice for you to try at home.

1, Take more showers than baths. Why? with a bath, you can use up to 20 to 30 gallons of hot water for a bath and up to 10 to 15 gallons of hot water for a shower.

2, You might ask yourself, how can I protect against frozen pipes? When water freezes in a pipe and turns to ice it expands as the ice expands, it increases pressure on the pipes and joints, often causing them to split or joints to pull apart.

2.1, Insulating all pipes in unheated areas like garages, lofts and outbuilding can save you an all load of money in the winter! If you are wondering where you can buy the insulating from here: Insulating Pipe

3, Replace metal pipes with plastic. Why? Replacing your metal piping with plastic where possible is a good idea, like under your sink for example. Plastic piping is ten times easier to work with and fix if any leaks.

4, Time to replace your taps? Look for leaks at the joints. There’s a point in time at which your taps are so old and corroded that it will be difficult to get parts for them. A lot of the time it’s simply cheaper to install new ones.

5, If you live in a hard water area, like Northampton, for example, you’re likely to have limescale deposits build up around taps and shower heads. Use a suitable limescale remover regularly to prevent the build-up of limescale. Use coke and vinegar is a great alternative to expensive cleaners you find in the shops.
